COMMITTEE REPORTS

Grapevine--getting to some AA meetings to promote Grapevine schedule now and looking for anyone that would be interested in having me come to their meeting. Also set up Grapevine material at November 14 District Dance. Grapevine has two new books out, one available now and the other to be available by the first of 2004.

GSR REPORTS

ONE STEP AT A TIME--attendance has been stable with the number attending between thirty and fifty every week. Melissa F. has been giving the leads for Tradition Three and Steps One and Two. She comes to the meeting well prepared, and she has quoted from our literature. I think our members have been enjoying her quotes. She will be giving the leads for the next four weeks and then Ron R. from Danville will take her place. We have two new home group members, which have replaced two home group members who seem to not participate in our group activities. We decided to have a greeter at the door. The person who is setting up is our greeter. We voted to disperse our excess funds. We will be ordering literature shortly. Last Thursday (Nov. 13th), we designated time before the meeting to continue our group inventory. We have had many things brought to our attention. The group inventory was very informative.

TUSCOLA MONDAY NIGHT--we are still running strong, twenty-five to thirty in attendance. We made our disbursements to GSO, Area 21, District 12 and Intergroup last week. We have speakers lined up for the next two months; speaker meeting is the fourth Monday of each month.

TUESDAY NIGHT NEWCOMERS--attendance is stable. No changes in format; group is above prudent reserve.

A BETTER WAY--ten to fifteen in attendance. Group supplies its own coffee; debated whether to do that or use facility’s coffee. Noon meeting was discussed; no chairperson there. Group members will help keep Noon meeting there at 120 S. Neil going by making certain the door is open at appropriate time. Group members will also help out with chairing noon meeting.

NITTY GRITTY--not many core group members; to many wearing `multiple hats’ (service positions.

CELLAR DWELLERS--attendance is stable.

INTERGROUP--Spring Conference in Peoria March 26-28, 2004, hosted by District 6. International Conference June 30-July 3, 2005. Webmaster’s name, new AA web address on new meeting list.

OLD BUSINESS

Chris M. brought up the idea of creating an Events Committee. Robert R. volunteered to chair, and committee was thus created.

NEW BUSINESS

Chris N. passed out group inventory sheets so groups may begin inventories by the first of the year and possibly report back by April 2004.

Robert R.’s report on the Fall Dance:

Total Revenues: $457.00
Total Expenses: $534.24
Loss: $77.24

In spite of our financial loss, we, as a District, served our purpose and goal at the event. Richard G. did a wonderful job sharing with us his story and experience with service work. I really appreciated him sharing these experiences because I know a few people learned many things about service structure. I think our goal this year is to inform people what we do. Everyone at the dance had fun and enjoyed themselves. Since the crown died down, we decided to shut down earlier, as a result, civic cented refunded us $30. I want to thank everyone who helped make this possible and the District for allowing me this opportunity to serve you. There were a couple of new guys that helped a lot and maybe they were able to see the purpose for service work.

Robert R. proposed a dance for May 2004. Motion seconded and passed unanimously.

Area Assembly to be held in Vandalia, Illinois December 7, 2003.

Meeting was adjourned at 2:33 p.m.

NEXT DISTRICT 12 MEETING TO BE SUNDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2003 AT 2:00 P.M. AT FELLOWSHIP HALL, 718 S. RANDOLPH STREET, CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS.

Motion was made to accept the minutes from September 21, 2003. Seconded and passed unanimously.

Treasurer Robert R. presented the treasurer’s report; current balance is $1414.63. Motion made to accept the treasurer’s report. Seconded and passed unanimously.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

GRAPEVINE--taking orders for calendars and pocket planners. Also available to go to groups to promote the Grapevine.
TREATMENT--are still struggling for support. Just filled two positions and have two to three more to fill. We would appreciate any announcements to GSRs could make in their home groups. Just instruct anyone interested to call Kelly at 367-7669. Changes continue to happen at the Pavilion. We are trying to work with them in getting what they want, but it has been a difficult and frustrating process. At this time, there is only one AA Orientation and it is the first Saturday of every month. There is no Bridge the Gap at this time. We are attempting to work something out, but the Pavilion cancelled it without telling us and we now have to figure out a time and a day that is both feasible for the clients and the volunteers from AA. We are going to begin updating our volunteer list again, as soon as a couple more people join our committee. We will also be at the November dance to start this process and we will have sign-up sheets. Because of all the work involved in updating our volunteer list, we hope to have it completed by January.

GSR REPORTS

TUSCOLA MONDAY NIGHT--meetings is going strong, 25 to 30 in attendance.
Getting enough in treasury to make disbursements. Speaker on the fourth Monday of each month.

LONELY HEARTS--meeting stable. Below prudent reserve due to rent increase.
Working on newcomer packets. Dance on October 31st: speaker is Dulce C., dance is from 9:00 to 12:00.

TUESDAY NIGHT NEWCOMERS--slight increase in attendance. Disbursements made last month. Promises reading added to the format last month.

TUESDAY NIGHT SAVOY--meeting is stable; 20 to 30 in attendance.

THE EARLY BIRD--group continues to do well, attracting a steady stream of newcomers to the meeting through the week with the weekend attendance having a mix of old members and newcomers with a smattering of visitors. We continue to feel we do a good job carrying the message but also know we can do better. We are blessed to have had a stalwart member of the Early Bird return to the nest after having not attended for an extended period of time; we are delighted to have his experience, strength and hope once again. We welcome any and all visitors. We meet Sunday-Saturday, 7:45 to 8:45.

MAHOMET (FRIENDS OF BILL W.)--meets Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m.; Jeff H. is the GSR. Meeting attendance is good. Literature is stocked; coins are stocked.
We had a group conscience and decided to move our speaker meetings back to once a month instead of every third month.

A BETTER WAY--our attendance has been averaging from 10 to 15 people per meeting. We have some long term sobriety amongst our group, 25 years, 31 years, 11 years, 8 years. Tuesday is a Step Meeting and Thursday is a Tradition Meeting. On the last minutes it was stated that there were problems with doors being open at 120 S. Neil. This is the Noon Meeting’s issue. We have no problems with the Better Way group. Our group is doing fine. A GSR and IR were elected last month. Fast-Pitch wiffle-ball tournament planned for next spring. Our contribution are getting closer to making rent, just $8.00 short. Better Way group is the only structured group at 120 S. Neil. Got in touch with Area Rep to discuss noon meeting:
money has been stolen and people have been waiting at the door (no one to open up). When door is open money disappears. Mention made at District 12 and other levels to no avail. So our only recourse left is to take it to Area and ask who Area Rep is and the phone number.

OASIS GROUP--Tuesday and Friday Noon to 12:50 at St. Andrews Lutheran Center on campus, corner of Wright and Chalmers Streets. 8 to 15 in attendance.
New bank account, business meeting on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
Round Robin format.

LAST CALL--Friday Midnight at Fellowship Hall. Not self-supporting. On meeting list now; may move group to new night and location.

ONE STEP AT A TIME--attendance has been stable, about 30 to 50 per week.
Melissa F. will be giving the leads at our meeting for the first six leads.
Ron R. from Danville will be giving the following seven leads after Melissa.
The cycle will start on October 30, 2003. We decided to postpone our group inventory right now. We are planning to schedule a separate meeting time for the group inventory because the inventory is so time-consuming.

THREE GUYS GROUP--have literature chairperson. Attendance is up; recently made disbursements.

NEW BUSINESS

Robert R. said everything is in place for the November 14th dance. Expenses thus far are as follows:

D.J.-- $300
Civic Center-- $180
Group Contributions--$30

New meeting list is out, with the new area AA website address printed on it.

Meeting was adjourned at 2:35 p.m. with the Lord’s Prayer.

NOTE: IF ANY GSR REPORTS WERE MISSED IN THESE MINUTES, I APOLOGIZE. I WOULD ASK THAT ALL GSRS AND COMMITTEE CHAIRS PLEASE SUBMIT WRITTEN REPORTS AT THE MONTHLY MEETING OR VIA EMAIL FOR ACCURACY IN MINUTES. THANKS!

NEXT DISTRICT 12 MEETING IS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2003 AT 2:00 P.M. AT FELLOWSHIP HALL, 718 S. RANDOLPH STREET, CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS.

Business meeting following first meeting of every month. Group treasurer will be opening a checking account for the group this month. Disbursements will be agreed upon and established following that. Rent has been our only recurring expense (need receipts). No business for the district at this time.

Friday Night (Charleston)--8:00 p.m., non-smoking. Attendance generally 30+. Still does not have a GSR, but announcements will be made asking for help.

Early Bird--group continues to do well, attracting a steady stream of newcomers to the meeting through the week with the weekend attendance having a mix of old members and newcomers with a smattering of visitors. We continue to feel we do a good job carrying the message but also know we can do better. We recently purchased a subscription to the Grapevine for the shut-ins at the county jail. We welcome any and all visitors. We meet Sunday-Saturday, 7:45 to 8:45 a.m.

One Step At A Time--our attendance has been stable with the number attending between 30 and 50 every week. We have gain three more home group members, two of which are female. I am happy we have more women in the home group. We have a new treasurer, so when that situation gets worked out we will decide to disperse our excess funds. Chris H. from Rantoul is now giving the leads at our meeting. We are really enjoying his sharing. We already have two people lined up for the next cycle; they are Melissa and Ron. Our group inventory is going really well. One thing we learned from it is that we were not paying enough attention to the newcomers. We have decided to buy those newcomer envelopes to give out. Overall, we are doing well.

Cellar Dwellers--30-35 in attendance; group is doing well.

OLD BUSINESS

Dance--all well. To be at Urbana Civic Center November 14, 2003; speaker is at 7:00 p.m. and dance is from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Singles--$6.00 donation; couples--$10.00 donation. Robert R. asked for ideas for a service statement for District 12.

NEW BUSINESS

Area Assembly
At our last district meeting in August 2003, our GSR numbers were down. We did take into consideration that people were on vacation. Our district committees are also struggling a bit, and we hope to have a treatment center committee workshop soon.
Our district is sponsoring a speaker/dance November 14 at the Urbana Civic Center. Our speaker will be our area delegate, Richard G. We will be looking forward to hearing Richard share his story.
This will be my last area assembly, as I have turned the position of DCM of District 12 over to my alternate, Chris N. As many of you know this is my second term, and when I accepted the DCM position again I strongly emphasized the need for rotation. I feel Chris is ready and willing to serve as our District 12 DCM, and our district needs a change. I thank all of you for putting up with me. It has been a true honor to serve my district and this area.

Thank You
God Bless
Mark Gendreau--DCM

Area is $1,000 over prudent reserve; considering workshops and giving money to committees. Mark G. is Corrections Chairperson for Area 21. Next meeting is December 7th in Vandalia, Rt. 51 North, I-70, exit 63, north ¼ mile, on left.

Alternate DCM recruitments are now taking place.

Meeting was adjourned at 3:10 p.m.

NEXT DISTRICT 12 MEETING IS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2003 AT 2:00 P.M. AT FELLOWSHIP HALL, 718 SOUTH RANDOLPH STREET, CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS.

Meeting was opened at 2:00 p.m. by DCM Mark G. with the Serenity Prayer and the reading of the Twelve Traditions.

Motion made and seconded to accept last month’s minutes. Passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s report presented by Robert R. Balance is $1784.91. Accepted unanimously.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Grapevine--sold around $100 in Grapevine material for Area 21 and got several Grapevine subscriptions at Convention State and Regional. We were able to make the Grapevine a focus to all who attended the weekend.

GSR REPORTS

Tuscola Monday Night--meeting going great; 25-30 in attendance. Speaker on the fourth Monday of each month (open). Will make disbursements again next month.

Tuesday Night Newcomers--all is well with the group. We are above prudent reserve and will make disbursements after we make a literature purchase. Attendance is steady at 25-30; one new core group member, bringing group’s core to a total of seven. Group’s format remains the same.

Early Bird--group continues to do well, attracting a steady stream of newcomers to the meeting through the week with the weekend attendance having a mix of old members and newcomers with a smattering of visitors. We continue to feel we do a good job carrying the message but also know we can do better. Some members were disappointed in having to pay the registration fee to be of service at the recent conference/convention. We welcome any and all visitors. We meet Sunday-Saturday, 7:45 to 8:45.

F.L.A.M.E.S.--group doing well, seven home group members. Attendance down a little. Campfire meetings going well, good meetings but not as well attended as last year. Format remains the same, closed meeting-discussion-smoking. We have a person holding the literature position now.

One Step At A Time--our attendance fluctuates between 20 and 50 every week. I think it is because of the warm weather. The attendance will be more stable when school starts. We have lost two home group members in the last two months; they both moved. We sent off for two subscriptions to the Grapevine to be sent to the county jails. We voted on ordering twenty paperback Big Books for the correctional facility committee. We also voted on increasing our literature inventory instead of dispersing our money. Voted to split the leads up by having two different people giving the leads. The way it will work is the we are going to have the first person give the leads on a tradition and the first five steps, and the second person give the leads on the Step Six through Twelve. Next Thursday will be on Step Three. The first person giving the leads is Jim from Champaign, and the second is Chris H. from Rantoul. At our last business meeting, we had some controversy regarding allowing non-alcoholics to share at our step meeting. Before we vote on the issue, we decided to do a group inventory. We are going to use the questions in the pamphlet, “The AA Group” pages 35-36.

A Better Way--situation with no one taking responsibility to open up getting worse; would like to see if it could be taken off meeting list. Will contact Intergroup. Bringing up issue of contributing to the collection basket; several ideas have been suggested for possible fundraisers, such as a dinner or outing. Looking for site to perform various activities. Stressing self-support; trying to get more people to donate. Dicussing in open meetings, if no other subject is brought up, gratitude for AA, group unity and maintaining longevity of group. Thinking of dropping Sunday Meeting; see how reserve is next month (depending on support of Sunday).

Tuesday Nite Savoy--meeting going along nicely; 25-30 regularly attend. Ruth D. is new GSR; Laura L unable to continue to attend meeting. Two weeks ago had our quarterly business meeting; no disbursements made as had no extra money after paying rent.

Joy of Living--disbursements to District 12 , Area 21 and GSO are pending; have approved reserve. Will buy Twelve and Twelve and Big Books approved by correction to be donated directly to Corrections Committee at District 12. Literature: have books and committee is self-supporting.

OLD BUSINESS

No old business.

NEW BUSINESS
we are in the process of creating a chip distribution system to encourage newcomers (attraction). We will have our own display for AA pamphlets and AA literature during the length of our meeting. We will buy a cabinet (locker-type) to keep our belongings (candles, literature, chips, etc.). Attendance is good, 35 and above. We have six core group members. Services (chair, coffee, greeter) covered for September.

Speaker meeting and dance being planned for November. Will probably be held at Urbana Civic Center with a professional DJ employed.

Area 21 Assembly hosted by District 11 September 7, 2003. Rooms available at Hawthorne Suites, 2370 Mt. Zion Road, Decatur. Robert R. presented the treasurer’s report. Balance is $1,548.16. Unanimously approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Treatment Facilities--Bridge The Gap meeting at the Pavilion now begins at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays instead of 4:00 p.m. The committee is in need of some new members. John M. left the committee a few months ago and John T. leaves for Slovakia this week. We are in need of some help so please announce this at your home groups. Please have those interested contact Kelly H. at 367-7669. Grapevine--display is ready to go for regional form and state conference. Area chair Fred R. will stock the display. Will be looking for people to man the display part-time. Jay S. (Intergroup)--hoping to provide childcare service at Full Circle House for parents attending meetings. Meeting List--new list printed and distributed July, 2003. Concern expressed that 120 S. Neil is not always open for Noon Meeting. DCM Mark G. stated that this is an individual group issue.

GSR REPORTS
Tuscola Monday Night--still going great. 25-30 in attendance. Speaker meeting fourth Monday of each month. Next meeting will be moved to senior citizens building due to Bible School at Forty Martyr Church (July 21st). F.L.A.M.E.S.--group doing well, seven home going well, good meetings but not as well attended as last hear. Format remains the same, closed meeting--discussion--smoking. Group has five Big Books and five `Twelve and Twelves’ for sale. Thursday Night One Step At A Time--doing well. Attendance fluctuates between 30-50 every week. Voted last business meeting that we are going to pay for two Grapevine subscriptions to the county jails ., one for the downtown facility and one for the satellite. In process of sending subscriptions off. Doing well financially, so we are going to discuss disbursing this month. We are looking for someone to do the next cycle of leads, which starts July 31st, with the Second Tradition and ends October 16th. Tuesday Night Newcomers--all is well with the group. Attendance is holding at 30-35 per week. We are financially stable at this time. The new literature officer is doing fine and has an assortment of literature for sale. The July 12th picnic went well and we thank everybody that made it possible. Early Bird--continue to have a solid group of home group members. All service positions are full with the representatives of each active in their differing acts of service. We continue to have many repeat newcomers who show promise of sticking with our winners. While we feel we carry the message well, we know we can do better. A Better Way--prudent reserve is lower; attendance is down some but not as low as expected because of air. Fund-raising put on hold; currently at one-month prudent reserve. Saturday Big Book Study--only taking in $12 per month: treasurer has been making additional donations so that group can make the rent. Wednesday Night Fresh Start--25-40 weekly attendance. Doing well financially. Group has new treasurer and two new homegroup members.

OLD BUSINESS
July 4th Picnic--attendance did not meet the committee’s expectations. Expected more than a hundred people, and there was approximately sixty or more. The expenses exceeded the amount we collected from the event by $185.31. If anyone is concerned with this loss, then maybe we can find some way to support our events in the future. In spite of our financial loss and low attendance, I think everyone there had a great time. There were no fights and there was a lot of laughter. I don’t think our purpose of the event was fulfilled. Our purpose of the event was to bring to people’s attention what District 12 is and does for the AA community. For future District 12 events, I suggest that we have a speaker meeting with a speaker that has experience as well as knowledge on service work. I would like to thank the District for giving the opportunity to help organize the event. I learned things about myself, others, and the does and don’ts of organizing an event. I would like to ask the District if we should get a thank-you card for Jeff and Donna for being so gracious to let us use their home.

Respectfully Submitted, Robert R.

NEW BUSINESS
Workshop for September (Grapevine OR Treatment Centers as topic possibilities, maybe at 3:00 p.m., after the District Meeting).

Motion made to not read minutes at the beginning of each District Meeting. Seconded and unanimously approved.

Respectfully Submitted, Robert Russ.

NEW BUSINESS

Meeting was closed at 2:45 p.m.

DCM REPORT
I am pleased to report that District 12‚s participation has picked up again. At our May District Meeting we held a corrections workshop before the meeting that was well attended.
I would really like to thank our corrections chair and our speakers, as well as our GSRs and AA members for a very informative as well as productive workshop. In my last twelve years of working in the District, I have never seen such enthusiasm and willingness to serve.
This was our second workshop we have put on this year so far. In July we plan to sponsor a District Fourth of July Picnic and hog roast. Our GSRs and District officers have again showed a willingness to serve and participate.
Our District is looking forward to the upcoming conference in August 2003, and plans to help out the conference committee in every way we can.
Thank You
Your Trusted Servant
